“Indeed, ¹  my plans ²  are not like ³  your plans, and my deeds ⁴  are not like ⁵  your deeds,

But I will be different now to this remnant of my people from the way I was in those days,’ says the Lord who rules over all,

“Are you the one who is to come, ¹  or should we look for another?”

It must not be this way among you! Instead whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant,

You are blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?

So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.

For nation will rise up in arms ¹  against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines ²  and earthquakes ³  in various places.

But it is not this way among you. Instead whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant,

A great number of sick, blind, lame, and paralyzed people were lying in these walkways. ¹ 

until another king who did not know about ¹  Joseph ruled ²  over Egypt. ³ 

But Peter helped him up, ¹  saying, “Stand up. I too am a mere mortal.” ² 

but in every nation ¹  the person who fears him ²  and does what is right ³  is welcomed before him.

In ¹  past ²  generations he allowed all the nations ³  to go their own ways,

I found he ¹  was accused with reference to controversial questions ²  about their law, but no charge against him deserved death or imprisonment. ³ 

For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous before God, but those who do the law will be declared righteous. ¹ 

But we who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and not just please ourselves. ¹ 

Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Instead, keeping God’s commandments is what counts.

Am I saying that idols or food sacrificed to them amount to anything?

For there must in fact be divisions among you, so that those of you who are approved may be evident. ¹ 

Whether then it was I or they, this is the way we preach and this is the way you believed.
