For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision something that is outward in the flesh,

But as God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.”

This saying ¹  is trustworthy: “If someone aspires to the office of overseer, ²  he desires a good work.”

Then Jesus, while teaching in the temple courts, ¹  cried out, ²  “You both know me and know where I come from! ³  And I have not come on my own initiative, ⁴  but the one who sent me ⁵  is true. You do not know him, ⁶ 

Finally, brothers and sisters, ¹  whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.

Jesus answered, ¹  “Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, because I know where I came from and where I am going. But you people ²  do not know where I came from or where I am going. ³ 

This saying ¹  is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance.

He taught what was true; ¹  sinful words were not found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and integrity, and he turned many people away from sin.

But if I judge, my evaluation is accurate, ¹  because I am not alone when I judge, ²  but I and the Father who sent me do so together. ³ 

Yes, I say also to you, true companion, ¹  help them. They have struggled together in the gospel ministry ²  along with me and Clement and my other coworkers, whose names are in the book of life.

let us draw near with a sincere heart in the assurance that faith brings, ¹  because we have had our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience ²  and our bodies washed in pure water.

Now as for you, the anointing ¹  that you received from him ²  resides ³  in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But as his ⁴  anointing teaches you about all things, it is true and is not a lie. Just as ⁵  it ⁶  has taught you, you reside ⁷  in him.

The king then had the matter investigated and, finding it to be so, had the two conspirators ¹  hanged on a gallows. ²  It was then recorded in the daily chronicles in the king’s presence.

So if a prophet prophesied ¹  peace and prosperity, it was only known that the Lord truly sent him when what he prophesied came true.”

These are the things you must do: Speak the truth, each of you, to one another. Practice true and righteous judgment in your courts. ¹ 

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and exclaimed, ¹  “Look, a true Israelite in whom there is no deceit!” ² 

“Truly, ¹  I know that this is so. But how ²  can a human ³  be just before ⁴  God? ⁵ 

You must use just balances, ¹  a just dry measure (an ephah), ²  and a just liquid measure (a bath). ³ 

Then ¹  he began to tell them, “Today ²  this scripture has been fulfilled even as you heard it being read.” ³ 

Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from goodwill.
