They replied, ¹  “You aren’t from Galilee too, are you? ²  Investigate carefully and you will see that no prophet ³  comes from Galilee!”

(His disciples did not understand these things when they first happened, ¹  but when Jesus was glorified, ²  then they remembered that these things were written about him and that these things had happened ³  to him.) ⁴ 

For the righteousness ¹  of God is revealed in the gospel ²  from faith to faith, ³  just as it is written, “The righteous by faith will live.” ⁴ 

And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How timely ¹  is the arrival ²  of those who proclaim the good news.” ³ 

Rather, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing this you will be heaping burning coals on his head. ¹ 

For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to me, and every tongue will give praise to God.” ¹ 

For even Christ did not please himself, but just as it is written, “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.” ¹ 

Or do you not know that anyone who is united with ¹  a prostitute is one body with her? ²  For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” ³ 

It is written in the law: “By people with strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people, yet not even in this way will they listen to me,” ¹  says the Lord.

So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living person”; ¹  the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

Now when this perishable puts on the imperishable, and this mortal puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will happen, “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” ¹ 

This is the third time I am coming to visit ¹  you. By the testimony ²  of two or three witnesses every matter will be established. ³ 

Now it is clear no one is justified before God by the law, because the righteous one will live by faith. ¹ 

Instead someone testified somewhere: “What is man that you think of him ¹  or the son of man that you care for him?

But he gives greater grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.” ¹ 

Instead ¹  he finds pleasure in obeying the Lord’s commands; ²  he meditates on ³  his commands ⁴  day and night.

Then you must recall the Lord’s instructions and the prophetic testimony of what would happen. ¹  Certainly they say such things because their minds are spiritually darkened. ² 

Jesus said to him, “Once again it is written: ‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’” ¹ 

Now as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, ¹ 

But I tell you that Elijah has certainly come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written about him.”
