I do not mean that we rule over your faith, but we are workers with you for your joy, because by faith you stand firm. ¹ 

For if I boast somewhat more about our authority that the Lord gave us ¹  for building you up and not for tearing you down, I will not be ashamed of doing so. ² 

But practicing the truth in love, ¹  we will in all things grow up into Christ, who is the head.

Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. ¹  But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness ²  for those trained by it.

but the inner person ¹  of the heart, the lasting beauty of a gentle and tranquil spirit, which is precious in God’s sight.

the Ammonite officials said to their lord Hanun, “Do you really think David is trying to honor your father by sending these messengers to express his sympathy? ¹  No, David has sent his servants to you to get information about the city and spy on it so they can overthrow it!” ²

So if perfection had in fact been possible through the Levitical priesthood – for on that basis ¹  the people received the law – what further need would there have been for another priest to arise, said to be in the order of Melchizedek and not in Aaron’s order?

But Hobab ¹  said to him, “I will not go, but I will go instead to my own land and to my kindred.”

Instead you must worship the Lord your God; then he will rescue you from the power of all your enemies.”

but instead sought the God of his ancestors ¹  and obeyed ²  his commands, unlike the Israelites. ³ 

The Lord takes delight in his faithful followers, ¹  and in those who wait for his loyal love.

Do not let your heart envy ¹  sinners, but rather be zealous in fearing the Lord ²  all the time.

Just as there is futility in many dreams, so also in many words. ¹  Therefore, fear God!

The words of the wise are heard in quiet, more than the shouting of a ruler is heard ¹  among fools.

Look, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have purified you ¹  in the furnace of misery.

He drove me into captivity ¹  and made me walk ²  in darkness and not light.

Yet I had pity on ¹  them and did not destroy them, so I did not make an end of them in the wilderness.

Instead, pursue ¹  his ²  kingdom, ³  and these things will be given to you as well.
