Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you. Go away from me, you lawbreakers!’ ¹ 

For they all gave out of their wealth. ¹  But she, out of her poverty, put in what she had to live on, everything she had.” ² 

But ¹  when the feast was over, ²  as they were returning home, ³  the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His ⁴  parents ⁵  did not know it,

Watch ¹  yourselves! If ²  your brother ³  sins, rebuke him. If ⁴  he repents, forgive him.

For they all offered their gifts out of their wealth. ¹  But she, out of her poverty, put in everything she had to live on.” ² 

and when they did not find his body, they came back and said they had seen a vision of angels, ¹  who said he was alive.

And the Father who sent me has himself testified about me. You people ¹  have never heard his voice nor seen his form at any time, ² 

You study the scriptures thoroughly ¹  because you think in them you possess eternal life, ²  and it is these same scriptures ³  that testify about me,

Now this is the will of the one who sent me – that I should not lose one person of every one he has given me, but raise them all up ¹  at the last day.

Then Jesus ¹  said to them again, ²  “I am going away, and you will look for me ³  but will die in your sin. ⁴  Where I am going you cannot come.”

Why not? Because they pursued ¹  it not by faith but (as if it were possible) by works. ²  They stumbled over the stumbling stone, ³ 

if somehow I could provoke my people to jealousy and save some of them.

Now food will not bring us close to God. We are no worse if we do not eat and no better if we do.

Instead I subdue my body and make it my slave, so that after preaching to others I myself will not be disqualified.

But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that the extraordinary power ¹  belongs to God and does not come from us.

in hard work and toil, ¹  through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, many times without food, in cold and without enough clothing. ² 

Indeed, he greatly missed all of you and was distressed because you heard that he had been ill.

For we wanted to come to you (I, Paul, in fact tried again and again) ¹  but Satan thwarted us.

We pray earnestly night and day to see you in person ¹  and make up what may be lacking in your faith.

For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love you have demonstrated for his name, in having served and continuing to serve the saints.
