Now the cistern where Ishmael threw all the dead bodies of those he had killed was a large one ¹  that King Asa had constructed as part of his defenses against King Baasha of Israel. ²  Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled it with dead bodies. ³ 

The king gave another order, ¹  and those men who had maliciously accused ²  Daniel were brought and thrown ³  into the lions’ den – they, their children, and their wives. ⁴  They did not even reach the bottom of the den before the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.

“We can’t,” they said, “until all the flocks are gathered and the stone is rolled off the mouth of the well. Then we water ¹  the sheep.”

the owner of the pit must repay ¹  the loss. He must give money ²  to its owner, and the dead animal ³  will become his.

He put ¹  them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as stones of memorial for the Israelites, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

the other ¹  two ends of the two chains they attached to the two settings, and they attached them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front of it.

They made two more ¹  gold rings and attached them to the bottom of the two shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the juncture above the waistband of the ephod.

you shall take an awl and pierce a hole through his ear to the door. ¹  Then he will become your servant permanently (this applies to your female servant as well).

The foreigners ¹  who reside among you will become higher and higher over you and you will become lower and lower.

They did as ordered; ¹  they brought the five kings ²  out of the cave to him – the kings of Jerusalem, ³  Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon.
