If these men die a natural death, ¹  or if they share the fate ²  of all men, then the Lord has not sent me.

But Jehu did not carefully and wholeheartedly obey the law of the Lord God of Israel. ¹  He did not repudiate the sins which Jeroboam had encouraged Israel to commit. ² 

The Lord had not decreed that he would blot out Israel’s memory ¹  from under heaven, ²  so he delivered them through Jeroboam son of Joash.

Because he killed innocent people and stained Jerusalem with their blood, the Lord was unwilling to forgive them. ¹ 

By the ninth day of the fourth month ¹  the famine in the city was so severe the residents ²  had no food.
