so that no one can boast in his presence.

And just as people ¹  are appointed to die once, and then to face judgment, ² 

All unrighteousness ¹  is sin, but there is sin not resulting in death. ² 

I will become his father and he will become my son. When he sins, I will correct him with the rod of men and with wounds inflicted by human beings.

For he ¹  is not a human being like I am, that ²  I might answer him, that we might come ³  together in judgment.

so man lies down and does not rise; until the heavens are no more, ¹  they ²  will not awake nor arise from their sleep.

If a man dies, will he live again? ¹  All the days of my hard service ²  I will wait ³  until my release comes. ⁴ 

Lord, we know that people do not control their own destiny. ¹  It is not in their power to determine what will happen to them. ² 

Yes, but the time will certainly come,” ¹  says the Lord, ²  “when I will punish her idols. Throughout her land the mortally wounded will groan.

Will you still say, “I am a god,” before the one who kills you – though you are a man and not a god – when you are in the power of those who wound you?

I cannot carry out ¹  my fierce anger! I cannot totally destroy Ephraim! Because I am God, and not man – the Holy One among you – I will not come in wrath!

You have been born anew, not from perishable but from imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.

Lord, use your power to deliver me from these murderers, ¹  from the murderers of this world! ²  They enjoy prosperity; ³  you overwhelm them with the riches they desire. ⁴  They have many children, and leave their wealth to their offspring. ⁵ 

For this reason no watered trees will grow so tall; their tops will not reach into the clouds, nor will the well-watered ones grow that high. ¹  For all of them have been appointed to die in the lower parts of the earth; ²  they will be among mere mortals, ³  with those who descend to the pit.

If ¹  anyone sees his fellow Christian ²  committing a sin not resulting in death, ³  he should ask, and God ⁴  will grant ⁵  life to the person who commits a sin not resulting in death. ⁶  There is a sin resulting in death. ⁷  I do not say that he should ask about that.

But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower that the people ¹  had started ²  building.

But man ¹  dies and is powerless; ²  he expires – and where is he? ³ 

“Surely you know ¹  that it has been from old, ever since humankind was placed ²  on the earth,

Is my ¹  complaint against a man? ²  If so, ³  why should I not be impatient? ⁴ 

“Is it to God that a strong man is of benefit? Is it to him that even a wise man is profitable? ¹
