“Even today my complaint is still bitter; ¹  his ²  hand is heavy despite ³  my groaning.

Surely it is an empty cry ¹  – God does not hear it; the Almighty does not take notice of it.

Do not those who devise ¹  evil go astray? But those who plan good exhibit ²  faithful covenant love. ³ 

Luxury is not appropriate ¹  for a fool; ²  how much less for a servant to rule over princes! ³ 

“Indeed, ¹  my plans ²  are not like ³  your plans, and my deeds ⁴  are not like ⁵  your deeds,

“Israel is not a slave, is he? He was not born into slavery, was he? ¹  If not, why then is he being carried off?

Then I said, “O sovereign Lord! They are saying of me, ‘Does he not simply speak in eloquent figures of speech?’”

A lion has roared! ¹  Who is not afraid? The sovereign Lord has spoken! Who can refuse to prophesy? ² 

yet you ¹  hate what is good, ²  and love what is evil. ³  You flay my people’s skin ⁴  and rip the flesh from their bones. ⁵ 

For everyone who asks ¹  receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

But he ¹  replied, “They don’t need to go. You ²  give them something to eat.”

‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart ¹  is far from me,

“It is not right ¹  to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs,” ²  he said. ³ 

How could you not understand that I was not speaking to you about bread? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!”

For just like the lightning ¹  comes from the east and flashes to the west, so the coming of the Son of Man will be.

They ¹  became greatly distressed ²  and each one began to say to him, “Surely not I, Lord?”

They were distressed, and one by one said to him, “Surely not I?”

for it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,’ ¹ 

so ¹  he thought to himself, ²  ‘What should I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ ³ 

Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living, ¹  for all live before him.” ²
