It trains us ¹  to reject godless ways ²  and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,

And similarly, was not Rahab the prostitute also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them out by another way?

Tell me! Present the evidence! ¹  Let them consult with one another! Who predicted this in the past? Who announced it beforehand? Was it not I, the Lord? I have no peer, there is no God but me, a God who vindicates and delivers; ²  there is none but me.

yet we know ¹  that no one ²  is justified by the works of the law ³  but by the faithfulness of Jesus Christ. ⁴  And ⁵  we have come to believe in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by the faithfulness of Christ ⁶  and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one ⁷  will be justified.

May the Lord punish him for the blood he shed; ¹  behind my father David’s back he struck down and murdered with the sword two men who were more innocent and morally upright than he ²  – Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel’s army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah’s army.

In the morning he went out and stood there. Then he said to all the people, “You are innocent. I conspired against my master and killed him. But who struck down all of these men?

Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout, daughter of Jerusalem! Look! Your king is coming to you: he is legitimate ¹  and victorious, ²  humble and riding on a donkey ³  – on a young donkey, the foal of a female donkey.

And those he predestined, he also called; and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified.

because his judgments are true and just. ¹  For he has judged ²  the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality, and has avenged the blood of his servants ³  poured out by her own hands!” ⁴ 

Does God pervert ¹  justice? ²  Or does the Almighty pervert ³  what is right?

For your loyal love extends beyond the sky, ¹  and your faithfulness reaches the clouds.

God says, ¹  “At the appointed times, ²  I judge ³  fairly.

They are forever firm, and should be faithfully and properly carried out. ¹ 

Indeed, ¹  the leaders sit ²  there on thrones and make legal decisions, on the thrones of the house of David. ³ 

to guard ¹  the paths of the righteous ²  and to protect ³  the way of his pious ones. ⁴ 

who leave ¹  the upright ²  paths to walk on the dark ³  ways,

Honor ¹  the Lord from your wealth and from the first fruits of all your crops; ² 

The way of the Lord ¹  is like ²  a stronghold for the upright, ³  but it is destruction ⁴  to evildoers. ⁵ 

The integrity of the upright guides them, ¹  but the crookedness of the unfaithful destroys them. ² 

Can spoils be taken from a warrior, or captives be rescued from a conqueror? ¹
