Then the priest must offer them up in smoke on the altar ¹  as a gift to the Lord. It is a guilt offering.

Those truly of Israelite descent ¹  separated from all the foreigners, ²  standing and confessing their sins and the iniquities of their ancestors. ³ 

if ¹  iniquity is in your hand – put it far away, ²  and do not let evil reside in your tents.

My offenses would be sealed up ¹  in a bag; ²  you would cover over ³  my sin.

to turn a person from his sin, ¹  and to cover a person’s pride. ² 

Certainly ¹  you are not a God who approves of evil; ²  evil people ³  cannot dwell with you. ⁴ 

See the one who is pregnant with wickedness, who conceives destructive plans, and gives birth to harmful lies – ¹ 

He becomes the victim of his own destructive plans ¹  and the violence he intended for others falls on his own head. ² 

How blessed is the one ¹  whose wrongdoing the Lord does not punish, ²  in whose spirit there is no deceit. ³ 

Hide your face ¹  from my sins! Wipe away ²  all my guilt!

O God, you are aware of my foolish sins; ¹  my guilt is not hidden from you. ² 

He does not deal with us as our sins deserve; ¹  he does not repay us as our misdeeds deserve. ² 

May his ancestors’ ¹  sins be remembered by the Lord! May his mother’s sin not be forgotten! ² 

If you, O Lord, were to keep track of ¹  sins, O Lord, who could stand before you? ² 

The way of the wicked is like gloomy darkness; ¹  they do not know what causes them to stumble. ² 

For my mouth ¹  speaks truth, ²  and my lips ³  hate wickedness. ⁴ 

From the fruit of his speech ¹  a person eats good things, ²  but the faithless ³  desire ⁴  the fruit of violence. ⁵ 

There is abundant food in the field ¹  of the poor, but it is swept away by injustice. ² 

A person’s wisdom ¹  makes him slow to anger, ²  and it is his glory ³  to overlook ⁴  an offense.

Your misdeeds have stopped these things from coming. ¹  Your sins have deprived you of my bounty.’ ²
