Manasseh was allotted ten shares of land, ¹  in addition to the land of Gilead and Bashan east of the Jordan,

This sin caused Jeroboam’s dynasty ¹  to come to an end and to be destroyed from the face of the earth.

So the Lord sent a plague through Israel, and 70,000 Israelite men died.

The beginning ¹  of wisdom is to fear the Lord, ²  and acknowledging ³  the Holy One ⁴  is understanding.

The one who winks ¹  his ²  eye causes ³  trouble, and the one who speaks foolishness ⁴  will come to ruin.

From the fruit of his speech ¹  a person eats good things, ²  but the faithless ³  desire ⁴  the fruit of violence. ⁵ 

For with great wisdom comes ¹  great frustration; whoever increases his ²  knowledge merely ³  increases his ⁴  heartache.

Then the Lord said, “This means ¹  destruction will break out from the north on all who live in the land.

At an appointed time he will again invade the south, but this latter visit will not turn out the way the former one did.

When they were fed, ¹  they became satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; ²  as a result, they forgot me!

Again he sent other slaves, more than the first, and they treated them the same way.

He ¹  said to the woman, “Your faith ²  has saved you; ³  go in peace.”

Whenever ¹  you enter a house, ²  first say, ‘May peace ³  be on this house!’

“Blessed is the king ¹  who comes in the name of the Lord! ²  Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

– children not born ¹  by human parents ²  or by human desire ³  or a husband’s ⁴  decision, ⁵  but by God.

After this many of his disciples quit following him ¹  and did not accompany him ²  any longer.

Therefore many of them believed, along with quite a few ¹  prominent ²  Greek women and men.

For the law brings wrath, because where there is no law there is no transgression ¹  either.

For Christ is the end of the law, with the result that there is righteousness for everyone who believes.

So in the same way at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.
