After three days ¹  Paul ²  called the local Jewish leaders ³  together. When they had assembled, he said to them, “Brothers, ⁴  although I had done ⁵  nothing against our people or the customs of our ancestors, ⁶  from Jerusalem ⁷  I was handed over as a prisoner to the Romans. ⁸ 

Whenever ¹  they hand you over for trial, do not worry about how to speak or what to say, ²  for what you should say will be given to you at that time. ³ 

But he refused. Instead, he went out and threw him in prison until he repaid the debt.

Day after day when I was with you in the temple courts, ¹  you did not arrest me. ²  But this is your hour, ³  and that of the power ⁴  of darkness!”

Then the officers ¹  returned ²  to the chief priests and Pharisees, ³  who said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him back with you?” ⁴ 

They incited the people, the ¹  elders, and the experts in the law; ²  then they approached Stephen, ³  seized him, and brought him before the council. ⁴ 

The king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea was planning a revolt. ¹  Hoshea had sent messengers to King So ²  of Egypt and had not sent his annual tribute to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria arrested him and imprisoned him. ³ 

All ¹  who heard him were amazed and were saying, “Is this not ²  the man who in Jerusalem was ravaging ³  those who call on this name, and who had come here to bring them as prisoners ⁴  to the chief priests?”

If he comes by ¹  and confines ²  you ³  and convenes a court, ⁴  then who can prevent ⁵  him?

Then ¹  they sent some of the Pharisees ²  and Herodians ³  to trap him with his own words. ⁴ 

(For he knew that the chief priests had handed him over because of envy.) ¹ 

So ¹  Judas ²  agreed and began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus ³  when no crowd was present. ⁴ 

and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over ¹  to be condemned to death, and crucified ²  him.

About that time King Herod ¹  laid hands on ²  some from the church to harm them. ³ 

I ¹  persecuted this Way ²  even to the point of death, ³  tying up ⁴  both men and women and putting ⁵  them in prison,

For this reason the Jews seized me in the temple courts ¹  and were trying to kill me.

when someone told me that Saul was dead – even though he thought he was bringing good news ¹  – I seized him and killed him in Ziklag. That was the good news I gave to him!

But before all this, ¹  they will seize ²  you and persecute you, handing you over to the synagogues ³  and prisons. You ⁴  will be brought before kings and governors because of my name.

Jesus replied, “My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my servants would be fighting to keep me from being ¹  handed over ²  to the Jewish authorities. ³  But as it is, ⁴  my kingdom is not from here.”

When he had seized him, he put him in prison, handing him over to four squads ¹  of soldiers to guard him. Herod ²  planned ³  to bring him out for public trial ⁴  after the Passover.
