These are the waters of Meribah, because the Israelites contended with the Lord, and his holiness was maintained ¹  among them.

Nor is there an arbiter ¹  between us, who ²  might lay ³  his hand on us both, ⁴ 

Will ¹  there be an end to your ²  windy words? ³  Or what provokes ⁴  you that you answer? ⁵ 

and ¹  he contends with God on behalf of man as a man ²  pleads ³  for his friend.

There ¹  an upright person could present his case ²  before him, and I would be delivered forever from my judge.

Job ¹  has not directed ²  his words to me, and so I will not reply to him with your arguments. ³ 

I am like a man who cannot hear and is incapable of arguing his defense. ¹ 

Fight for me ¹  and defend me! ²  Revive me with your word!

Do not answer a fool according to his folly, ¹  lest you yourself also be like him. ² 

Answer a fool according to his folly, ¹  lest he be wise in his own estimation. ² 

The more one argues with words, the less he accomplishes. ¹  How does that benefit him? ² 

The Lord takes his position to judge; he stands up to pass sentence on his people. ¹ 

A dispute also started ¹  among them over which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. ² 

On the contrary, we believe that we are saved through ¹  the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they are.” ² 

Then ¹  he said to me, ‘Go, because I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’”

Some have strayed from these and turned away to empty discussion.

But reject those myths ¹  fit only for the godless and gullible, ²  and train yourself for godliness.

The Ephraimites said to him, “Why have you done such a thing to us? You did not summon us ¹  when you went to fight the Midianites!” They argued vehemently with him.

I will stand at my watch post; I will remain stationed on the city wall. ¹  I will keep watching, so I can see what he says to me and can know ²  how I should answer when he counters my argument. ³
