By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth for yourself; you have amassed gold and silver in your treasuries.

Some time later Absalom managed to acquire ¹  a chariot and horses, as well as fifty men to serve as his royal guard. ² 

They sailed ¹  to Ophir, took from there four hundred twenty talents ²  of gold, and then brought them to King Solomon.

Is not their excess wealth ¹  taken away from them? ²  They die, ³  yet without attaining wisdom. ⁴ 

in order to safeguard ¹  discretion, ²  and that your lips may guard knowledge.

You who are naive, discern ¹  wisdom! And you fools, understand discernment! ² 

From the fruit of his speech ¹  a person eats good things, ²  but the faithless ³  desire ⁴  the fruit of violence. ⁵ 

A fool rejects his father’s discipline, but whoever heeds reproof shows good sense. ¹ 

Of what ¹  use is money in the hand of a fool, ²  since he has no intention ³  of acquiring wisdom? ⁴ 

Acquire ¹  truth and do not sell it – wisdom, and discipline, and understanding.

What does a man acquire from all his labor and from the anxiety that accompanies his toil on earth? ¹ 

Those who stray morally will gain understanding; ¹  those who complain will acquire insight. ²
