However, no one spoke openly about him for fear of the Jewish leaders. ¹ 

For I hear what so many are saying, ¹  the terrifying news that comes from every direction. ²  When they plot together against me, they figure out how they can take my life.

There was ¹  a lot of grumbling ²  about him among the crowds. ³  Some were saying, “He is a good man,” but others, “He deceives the common people.” ⁴ 

And when she had said this, Martha ¹  went and called her sister Mary, saying privately, ²  “The Teacher is here and is asking for you.” ³ 

They are filled ¹  with every kind of unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, malice. They are rife with ²  envy, murder, strife, deceit, hostility. They are gossips,

For I am afraid that somehow when I come I will not find you what I wish, and you will find me ¹  not what you wish. I am afraid that ²  somehow there may be quarreling, jealousy, intense anger, selfish ambition, ³  slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorder.

The man asked him, ¹  “What is your name?” ²  He answered, “Jacob.”

Pay attention to me and answer me! I am so upset ¹  and distressed, ²  I am beside myself, ³ 

For my enemies talk about me; those waiting for a chance to kill me plot my demise. ¹ 

For ¹  I will remove the names of the Baal idols ²  from your lips, ³  so that you will never again utter their names!” ⁴ 

Then ¹  some of the experts in the law ²  said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming!” ³ 

When Jesus saw their reaction he said, “Why do you respond with evil in your hearts?

So ¹  they began to discuss this among themselves, saying, “It is because we brought no bread.”

When Jesus perceived ¹  their hostile thoughts, ²  he said to them, ³  “Why are you raising objections ⁴  within yourselves?

But the Jews who refused to believe ¹  stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds ²  against the brothers.

“But as for you, son of man, your people ¹  (who are talking about you by the walls and at the doors of the houses) say to one another, ²  ‘Come hear the word that comes ³  from the Lord.’

David’s men said to him, “This is the day about which the Lord said to you, ‘I will give your enemy into your hand, and you can do to him whatever seems appropriate to you.’” ¹  So David got up and quietly cut off an edge of Saul’s robe.

He was afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! This is nothing else than the house of God! This is the gate of heaven!”

Throughout the afternoon they were in an ecstatic frenzy, ¹  but there was no sound, no answer, and no response. ² 

My heart tells me to pray to you, ¹  and I do pray to you, O Lord. ²
