and he reasoned ¹  that God could even raise him from the dead, and in a sense ²  he received him back from there.

You who are naive, discern ¹  wisdom! And you fools, understand discernment! ² 

“Whoever is naive, let him turn in here,” she says ¹  to those ²  who lack understanding. ³ 

“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here,” she says to those who lack understanding. ¹ 

A fool rejects his father’s discipline, but whoever heeds reproof shows good sense. ¹ 

Of what ¹  use is money in the hand of a fool, ²  since he has no intention ³  of acquiring wisdom? ⁴ 

Reverential awe ¹  came over everyone, ²  and many wonders and miraculous signs ³  came about by the apostles.

Does not the ear test words, as ¹  the tongue ²  tastes food? ³ 

For the ear assesses ¹  words as the mouth ²  tastes food.

Counsel and sound wisdom belong to me; ¹  I possess understanding and might.

The one who wanders ¹  from the way of wisdom ²  will end up ³  in the company of the departed. ⁴ 

Praised be your good judgment! May you yourself be rewarded ¹  for having prevented me this day from shedding blood and taking matters into my own hands!

When the fourteenth night had come, while we were being driven ¹  across the Adriatic Sea, ²  about midnight the sailors suspected they were approaching some land. ³ 

Sober up as you should, and stop sinning! For some have no knowledge of God – I say this to your shame!

He deprives the trusted advisers ¹  of speech ²  and takes away the discernment ³  of elders.

For God deprived her of wisdom, and did not impart understanding to her.

Teach me proper discernment ¹  and understanding! For I consider your commands to be reliable. ² 

He stores up ¹  effective counsel ²  for the upright, ³  and is like ⁴  a shield ⁵  for those who live ⁶  with integrity, ⁷ 

My child, do not let them ¹  escape from your sight; safeguard sound wisdom and discretion. ² 

Like a gold ring ¹  in a pig’s snout ²  is ³  a beautiful woman who rejects ⁴  discretion. ⁵
