But how can I alone bear up under the burden of your hardship and strife?

Look, your fasting is accompanied by ¹  arguments, brawls, and fistfights. ²  Do not fast as you do today, trying to make your voice heard in heaven.

And the Lord’s slave ¹  must not engage in heated disputes ²  but be kind toward all, an apt teacher, patient,

You desire and you do not have; you murder and envy and you cannot obtain; you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask;

The next day Moses ¹  saw two men ²  fighting, and tried to make peace between ³  them, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers; why are you hurting one another?’

For too long I have had to reside with those who hate ¹  peace.

Hatred ¹  stirs up dissension, but love covers all transgressions. ² 

With pride ¹  comes only ²  contention, but wisdom is with the well-advised. ³
