For it seems unreasonable to me to send a prisoner without clearly indicating ¹  the charges against him.”

Now the soldiers’ plan was to kill the prisoners ¹  so that none of them would escape by swimming away. ² 

The officials were very angry ¹  at Jeremiah. They had him flogged and put in prison in the house of Jonathan, the royal secretary, which they had converted into a place for confining prisoners. ² 

Remember those in prison as though you were in prison with them, ¹  and those ill-treated as though you too felt their torment. ² 

vindicates the oppressed, ¹  and gives food to the hungry. The Lord releases the imprisoned.

For he came out of prison ¹  to become king, even though he had been born poor in what would become his ²  kingdom.

Now when John ¹  heard in prison about the deeds Christ ²  had done, he sent his disciples to ask a question: ³ 

Herod added this to them all: He locked up John in prison.

But Peter ¹  said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!” ² 

So Peter was kept in prison, but those in the church were earnestly ¹  praying to God for him. ² 

For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus ¹  for the sake of you Gentiles –

so he imprisoned them in the house of the captain of the guard in the same facility where Joseph was confined.

Suddenly a great earthquake occurred, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. Immediately all the doors flew open, and the bonds ¹  of all the prisoners came loose.

For the Lord listens to the needy; he does not despise his captive people. ¹ 

But during the night an angel of the Lord ¹  opened ²  the doors of the prison, ³  led them out, ⁴  and said,

Is this the one who made the world like a desert, who ruined its ¹  cities, and refused to free his prisoners so they could return home?”’ ² 

So ¹  the king sent an executioner at once to bring John’s ²  head, and he went and beheaded John in prison.

He imprisoned ¹  them all for three days.

They sat in utter darkness, ¹  bound in painful iron chains, ² 

They ¹  laid hands on ²  the apostles and put them in a public jail.
