God deserves praise, ¹  for ²  he did not reject my prayer or abandon his love for me! ³ 

Does the one who makes the human ear not hear? Does the one who forms the human eye not see? ¹ 

He says, ¹  “Do not be stubborn like they were at Meribah, ²  like they were that day at Massah ³  in the wilderness, ⁴ 

The one who turns away his ear ¹  from hearing the law, even his prayer ²  is an abomination. ³ 

“Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness.

And to whom did he swear they would never enter into his rest, except those who were disobedient?

But some wicked men ¹  said, “How can this man save us?” They despised him and did not even bring him a gift. But Saul said nothing about it. ² 

Then you came back and wept before the Lord, but he ¹  paid no attention to you whatsoever. ² 

O Lord, why do you reject me, and pay no attention to me? ¹ 

However, ¹  because ²  I called but you refused to listen, ³  because ⁴  I stretched out my hand ⁵  but no one paid attention,

and the doors along the street are shut; when the sound of the grinding mill ¹  grows low, and one is awakened ²  by the sound of a bird, and all their ³  songs ⁴  grow faint, ⁵ 

Make the hearts of these people calloused; make their ears deaf and their eyes blind! Otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears, their hearts might understand and they might repent and be healed.” ¹ 

Do you not know? Do you not hear? Has it not been told to you since the very beginning? Have you not understood from the time the earth’s foundations were made?

We have not paid attention to your servants the prophets, who spoke by your authority ¹  to our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors, ²  and to all the inhabitants ³  of the land as well.

Then they brought to him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute. Jesus ¹  healed him so that he could speak and see. ² 

And the Father who sent me has himself testified about me. You people ¹  have never heard his voice nor seen his form at any time, ² 

“You stubborn ¹  people, with uncircumcised ²  hearts and ears! ³  You are always resisting the Holy Spirit, like your ancestors ⁴  did!

As it says, ¹  “Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks! ²  Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” ³ 

For which ones heard and rebelled? Was it not all who came out of Egypt under Moses’ leadership? ¹ 

And against whom was God ¹  provoked for forty years? Was it not those who sinned, whose dead bodies fell in the wilderness? ²
