I chase my enemies and catch ¹  them; I do not turn back until I wipe them out.

The one who works ¹  his field will have plenty ²  of food, but whoever chases daydreams ³  lacks wisdom. ⁴ 

Better is one handful with some rest than two hands full of toil ¹  and chasing the wind.

So I loathed ¹  life ²  because what happens ³  on earth ⁴  seems awful to me; for all the benefits of wisdom ⁵  are futile – like chasing the wind.

Then I considered ¹  all the skillful work ²  that is done: Surely it is nothing more than ³  competition ⁴  between one person and another. ⁵  This also is profitless – like ⁶  chasing the wind.

There is no end to all the people ¹  nor to the past generations, ²  yet future generations ³  will not rejoice in him. This also is profitless and like ⁴  chasing the wind.

It is better to be content with ¹  what the eyes can see ²  than for one’s heart always to crave more. ³  This continual longing ⁴  is futile – like ⁵  chasing the wind.

Israelites from Naphtali, Asher, and Manasseh answered the call and chased the Midianites. ¹ 

Then Joab blew the trumpet ¹  and the army turned back from chasing Israel, for Joab had called for the army to halt.

May they be ¹  like wind-driven chaff, as the Lord’s angel ²  attacks them! ³ 

chase them with your gale winds, and terrify ¹  them with your windstorm.

He pursues them and passes by unharmed; ¹  he advances with great speed. ²
