For this reason it is by faith so that it may be by grace, ¹  with the result that the promise may be certain to all the descendants – not only to those who are under the law, but also to those who have the faith of Abraham, ²  who is the father of us all

chief Korah, ¹  chief Gatam, chief Amalek. These were the chiefs descended from Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these were the sons ²  of Adah.

All the people ¹  who were directly descended ²  from Jacob numbered seventy. ³  But Joseph was already in Egypt, ⁴ 

But if the woman has not defiled herself, and is clean, then she will be free of ill effects ¹  and will be able to bear children.

then let me sow ¹  and let another eat, and let my crops ²  be uprooted.

See the one who is pregnant with wickedness, who conceives destructive plans, and gives birth to harmful lies – ¹ 

All day long he shows compassion and lends to others, ¹  and his children ²  are blessed.

May his descendants ¹  be cut off! ²  May the memory of them be wiped out by the time the next generation arrives! ³ 

The wicked person ¹  earns ²  deceitful wages, ³  but the one who sows ⁴  righteousness reaps ⁵  a genuine ⁶  reward. ⁷ 

He who watches the wind will not sow, and he who observes the clouds will not reap. ¹ 

There were seven brothers. The first one married, ¹  and when he died he had no children.

The second married her and died without any children, and likewise the third.

He has helped his servant Israel, remembering ¹  his mercy, ² 

So neither the one who plants counts for anything, ¹  nor the one who waters, but God who causes the growth.

It is the same with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable, what is raised is imperishable. ¹ 

For he was still in his ancestor Abraham’s loins ¹  when Melchizedek met him.

The Lord ¹  took him outside and said, “Gaze into the sky and count the stars – if you are able to count them!” Then he said to him, “So will your descendants be.”

Throughout your generations every male among you who is eight days old ¹  must be circumcised, whether born in your house or bought with money from any foreigner who is not one of your descendants.

God said, “No, Sarah your wife is going to bear you a son, and you will name him Isaac. ¹  I will confirm my covenant with him as a perpetual ²  covenant for his descendants after him.

The Lord appeared to him that night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.”
