The crowd joined the attack ¹  against them, and the magistrates tore the clothes ²  off Paul and Silas ³  and ordered them to be beaten with rods. ⁴ 

Some of them were persuaded ¹  and joined Paul and Silas, along with a large group ²  of God-fearing Greeks ³  and quite a few ⁴  prominent women.

Some of the crowd concluded ¹  it was about ²  Alexander because the Jews had pushed him to the front. ³  Alexander, gesturing ⁴  with his hand, was wanting to make a defense ⁵  before the public assembly. ⁶ 

So in fact children ¹  were fathered by one man – and this one as good as dead – like the number of stars in the sky and like the innumerable grains of sand ²  on the seashore. ³ 

The Lord his God handed him over to the king of Syria. The Syrians ¹  defeated him and deported many captives to Damascus. ²  He was also handed over to the king of Israel, who thoroughly defeated him. ³ 

Indeed, this is what the Lord says to me: “The Lord will be like a growling lion, like a young lion growling over its prey. ¹  Though a whole group of shepherds gathers against it, it is not afraid of their shouts or intimidated by their yelling. ²  In this same way the Lord who commands armies will descend to do battle on Mount Zion and on its hill. ³ 

I will tell of the faithful acts of the Lord, of the Lord’s praiseworthy deeds. I will tell about all ¹  the Lord did for us, the many good things he did for the family of Israel, ²  because of ³  his compassion and great faithfulness.

Then I will confirm my covenant ¹  between me and you, and I will give you a multitude of descendants.” ² 

a trembling ¹  gripped me – and a terror! – and made all my bones shake. ² 

If his children increase – it is for the sword! ¹  His offspring never have enough to eat. ² 

Or a person is chastened ¹  by pain on his bed, and with the continual strife of his bones, ² 

I am not afraid ¹  of the multitude of people ²  who attack me from all directions. ³ 

Be assured that ¹  the evil person will certainly be punished, ²  but the descendants of the righteous ³  will not suffer unjust judgment. ⁴ 

I spelled out my law for him in great detail, but they regard it as something totally unknown ¹  to them!

All the crowds were amazed and said, “Could this one be the Son of David?”

I tell you the truth, ¹  this generation ²  will not pass away until all these things take place.

During the feast the governor was accustomed to release one prisoner to the crowd, ¹  whomever they wanted.

Jesus ¹  went with him, and a large crowd followed and pressed around him.

When ¹  they had done this, they caught so many fish that their nets started to tear. ²
