O Lord, in your good favor you made me secure. ¹  Then you rejected me ²  and I was terrified.

How will they respond to the messengers of this nation? ¹  Indeed, the Lord has made Zion secure; the oppressed among his people will find safety in her.

He changes times and seasons, deposing some kings and establishing others. ¹  He gives wisdom to the wise; he imparts knowledge to those with understanding; ² 

What I am saying is this: The law that came four hundred thirty years later does not cancel a covenant previously ratified by God, ¹  so as to invalidate the promise.

But ¹  now Jesus ²  has obtained a superior ministry, since ³  the covenant that he mediates is also better and is enacted ⁴  on better promises. ⁵ 

But ¹  showing its fault, ²  God ³  says to them, ⁴  “Look, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will complete a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.

Josiah also got rid of ¹  the ritual pits used to conjure up spirits, ²  the magicians, personal idols, disgusting images, ³  and all the detestable idols that had appeared in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem. In this way he carried out the terms of the law ⁴  recorded on the scroll that Hilkiah the priest had discovered in the Lord’s temple.

Then I will confirm my covenant ¹  between me and you, and I will give you a multitude of descendants.” ² 

“‘These are the Lord’s appointed times, holy assemblies, which you must proclaim at their appointed time.

and the priest will establish its conversion value, ¹  whether good or bad. According to the assessed conversion value of the priest, thus it will be.

Then he uttered this oracle: “O, who will survive when God does this! ¹ 

All these kings gathered and joined forces ¹  at the Waters of Merom to fight Israel.

That day Joshua drew up an agreement ¹  for the people, and he established rules and regulations ²  for them in Shechem.

Judah also failed to keep the commandments of the Lord their God; they followed Israel’s example. ¹ 

Remember ¹  continually his covenantal decree, the promise he made ²  to a thousand generations –

You made Israel your very own nation for all time. ¹  You, O Lord, became their God.

King Rehoboam solidified his rule in Jerusalem; ¹  he ²  was forty-one years old when he became king and he ruled for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the Lord chose from all the tribes of Israel to be his home. ³  Rehoboam’s ⁴  mother was an Ammonite named Naamah.

Jotham grew powerful because he was determined to please the Lord his God. ¹ 

Hezekiah and all the people were happy about what God had done ¹  for them, ²  for it had been done quickly. ³ 

to have them observe the fourteenth and the fifteenth day of the month of Adar each year
