For you, O God, hear my vows; you grant me the reward that belongs to your loyal followers. ¹ 

Your justice, O God, extends to the skies above; ¹  you have done great things. ²  O God, who can compare to you? ³ 

A prayer of Moses, the man of God. O Lord, you have been our protector ²  through all generations!

O daughter Babylon, soon to be devastated! ¹  How blessed will be the one who repays you for what you dished out to us! ² 

My child, ²  if you have made a pledge ³  for your neighbor, and ⁴  have become a guarantor ⁵  for a stranger, ⁶ 

Next, I decided to consider ¹  wisdom, as well as foolish behavior and ideas. ²  For what more can the king’s successor do than what the king ³  has already done?

I hate your new moon festivals and assemblies; they are a burden that I am tired of carrying.

You will not be buried with them, ¹  because you destroyed your land and killed your people. The offspring of the wicked will never be mentioned again.

Indeed, ¹  you have made the city ²  into a heap of rubble, the fortified town into a heap of ruins; the fortress of foreigners ³  is no longer a city, it will never be rebuilt.

Yes, as your judgments unfold, ¹  O Lord, we wait for you. We desire your fame and reputation to grow. ² 

O Lord, you make us secure, ¹  for even all we have accomplished, you have done for us. ² 

The dead do not come back to life, the spirits of the dead do not rise. ¹  That is because ²  you came in judgment ³  and destroyed them, you wiped out all memory of them.

Your claim to have a strategy and military strength is just empty talk. ¹  In whom are you trusting, that you would dare to rebel against me?

Remember what I accomplished in antiquity! ¹  Truly I am God, I have no peer; ²  I am God, and there is none like me,

These double disasters confronted you. But who feels sorry for you? Destruction and devastation, famine and sword. But who consoles you? ¹ 

At whom are you laughing? At whom are you opening your mouth and sticking out your tongue? You are the children of rebels, the offspring of liars, ¹ 

On every high, elevated hill you prepare your bed; you go up there to offer sacrifices.

We existed from ancient times, ¹  but you did not rule over them, they were not your subjects. ² 

I planted you in the land like a special vine of the very best stock. Why in the world have you turned into something like a wild vine that produces rotten, foul-smelling grapes? ¹ 

“It did no good for me to punish your people. They did not respond to such correction. You slaughtered your prophets like a voracious lion.” ¹
