But he forcefully commanded ¹  them not to tell this to anyone, ² 

At that he began to curse, and he swore with an oath, “I do not know the man!” At that moment a rooster crowed. ¹

With many other words he testified ¹  and exhorted them saying, “Save yourselves from this perverse ²  generation!”

Then ¹  Peter ²  took hold ³  of him by the right hand and raised him up, and at once the man’s ⁴  feet and ankles were made strong. ⁵ 

Simeon ¹  has explained ²  how God first concerned himself ³  to select ⁴  from among the Gentiles ⁵  a people for his name.

But he denied it in front of them all: ¹  “I don’t know what you’re talking about!”

He denied it again with an oath, “I do not know the man!”

Now ¹  as soon as they left the synagogue, ²  they entered Simon and Andrew’s house, with James and John.

Now ¹  after some days, when he returned to Capernaum, ²  the news spread ³  that he was at home.

Now ¹  Jesus ²  went home, and a crowd gathered so that they were not able to eat.

For ¹  Peter ²  and all who were with him were astonished ³  at the catch of fish that they had taken,

angry ¹  because they were teaching the people and announcing ²  in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.

So ¹  they seized ²  them and put them in jail ³  until the next day (for it was already evening).

But when they had ordered them to go outside the council, ¹  they began to confer with one another,

He became hungry and wanted to eat, but while they were preparing the meal, a trance came over him. ¹ 

“For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his house become deserted, ¹  and let there be no one to live in it,’ ²  and ‘Let another take his position of responsibility.’ ³ 

He said to them, “You know that ¹  it is unlawful ²  for a Jew ³  to associate with or visit a Gentile, ⁴  yet God has shown me that I should call no person ⁵  defiled or ritually unclean. ⁶ 

When he had seized him, he put him in prison, handing him over to four squads ¹  of soldiers to guard him. Herod ²  planned ³  to bring him out for public trial ⁴  after the Passover.

He motioned to them ¹  with his hand to be quiet and then related ²  how the Lord had brought ³  him out of the prison. He said, “Tell James and the brothers these things,” and then he left and went to another place. ⁴
