I will increase their ¹  disasters, I will use up my arrows on them.

Terror ¹  is coming! They will seek peace, but find none.

then the Lord will increase your punishments and those of your descendants – great and long-lasting afflictions and severe, enduring illnesses.

Disaster will overtake you; you will not know how to charm it away. ¹  Destruction will fall on you; you will not be able to appease it. Calamity will strike you suddenly, before you recognize it. ² 

You will be protected ¹  from malicious gossip, ²  and will not be afraid of the destruction ³  when it comes.

It hurls itself against him without pity ¹  as he flees headlong from its power.

Your tongue carries out your destructive plans; ¹  it is as effective as a sharp razor, O deceiver. ² 

Therefore, his disaster will come suddenly; in an instant ¹  he will be broken, and there will be no remedy.

Not one of them will survive. ¹  I will bring disaster on those men from Anathoth who threatened you. ²  A day of reckoning is coming for them.” ³ 

They will know that I am the Lord; my threats to bring this catastrophe on them were not empty.’ ¹ 

In my zeal, in the fire of my fury, ¹  I declare that on that day there will be a great earthquake ²  in the land of Israel.

You refuse to believe a day of disaster will come, ¹  but you establish a reign of violence. ² 

So when God destroyed ¹  the cities of the region, ²  God honored ³  Abraham’s request. He removed Lot ⁴  from the midst of the destruction when he destroyed ⁵  the cities Lot had lived in.

Moreover, the Lord will bring upon you every kind of sickness and plague not mentioned in this scroll of commandments, ¹  until you have perished.

So this is what the Lord God of Israel says, ‘I am about to bring disaster on Jerusalem and Judah. The news will reverberate in the ears of those who hear about it. ¹ 

“The time will come when the land suffers from a famine, a plague, blight, and disease, or a locust ¹  invasion, or when their enemy lays siege to the cities of the land, ²  or when some other type of plague or epidemic occurs.

For how can I watch the calamity that will befall my people, and how can I watch the destruction of my relatives?” ¹ 

“Look, here is the man who would not make ¹  God his protector! He trusted in his great wealth and was confident about his plans to destroy others.” ² 

when what you dread ¹  comes like a whirlwind, ²  and disaster strikes you ³  like a devastating storm, ⁴  when distressing trouble ⁵  comes on you.

The Lord who rules over all ¹  says, ‘I will bring war, ²  starvation, and disease on them. I will treat them like figs that are so rotten ³  they cannot be eaten.
