God said, “Let there be an expanse ¹  in the midst of the waters and let it separate water ²  from water.

The waters completely overwhelmed ¹  the earth, and the ark floated ²  on the surface of the waters.

The waters ¹  saw you, O God, the waters saw you and trembled. ²  Yes, the depths of the sea ³  shook with fear. ⁴ 

By the blast of your nostrils ¹  the waters were piled up, the flowing water stood upright like a heap, ²  and the deep waters were solidified in the heart of the sea.

The Lord’s shout is heard over the water; ¹  the majestic God thunders, ²  the Lord appears over the surging water. ³ 

“The dead ²  tremble ³  – those beneath the waters and all that live in them. ⁴ 

When he made ¹  the force of the wind and measured ²  the waters with a gauge.

The watery deep covered it ¹  like a garment; the waters reached ²  above the mountains. ³ 

But you trample on the sea with your horses, on the surging, raging waters. ¹ 

He reached down from above and grabbed me; ¹  he pulled me from the surging water. ² 

The breath of God produces ice, and the breadth of the waters freeze solid.

The water covered their enemies; not even one of them survived. ¹ 

¹ Some traveled on ²  the sea in ships, and carried cargo over the vast waters. ³ 

The raging water would have overwhelmed us. ¹ 

Praise him, O highest heaven, and you waters above the sky! ¹ 

So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. ¹  It was so. ² 

But ¹  you blew with your breath, and ²  the sea covered them. They sank ³  like lead in the mighty waters.

The waters rose more than twenty feet ¹  above the mountains. ² 

The waters prevailed over ¹  the earth for 150 days.

For you ¹  will forget your trouble; ²  you will remember it like water that ³  has flowed away.
