if they break ¹  my rules and do not keep my commandments,

They have sex with their father’s wife within you; ¹  they violate women during their menstrual period within you. ² 

I will not break ¹  my covenant or go back on what I promised. ² 

Then with smooth words he will defile ¹  those who have rejected ²  the covenant. But the people who are loyal to ³  their God will act valiantly. ⁴ 

You must not have sexual intercourse with your brother’s wife; she is your brother’s nakedness. ¹ 

(23:1) ¹  A man may not marry ²  his father’s former ³  wife and in this way dishonor his father. ⁴ 

He answered them, ¹  “And why do you disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition?

You must not ¹  expose your father’s nakedness by having sexual intercourse with your mother. ²  She is your mother; you must not have intercourse with her.

You must not expose the nakedness of your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter by having sexual intercourse with them, because they are your own nakedness. ¹ 

You must not expose the nakedness of your father’s brother; you must not approach his wife to have sexual intercourse with her. ¹  She is your aunt. ² 

But she said to him, “No, my brother! Don’t humiliate me! This just isn’t done in Israel! Don’t do this foolish thing!

As for the Almighty, ¹  we cannot attain to him! He is great in power, but justice ²  and abundant righteousness he does not oppress.

They come in as through a wide breach; amid the crash ¹  they come rolling in. ² 

You have despised my holy things and desecrated my Sabbaths!

The man ¹  said to him, “Teacher, I have wholeheartedly obeyed ²  all these laws ³  since my youth.” ⁴ 

For if someone weak sees you who possess knowledge dining in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience be “strengthened” ¹  to eat food offered to idols?

You must not have sexual intercourse with your father’s wife; she is your father’s nakedness. ¹ 

“‘You must not approach a woman in her menstrual impurity ¹  to have sexual intercourse with her.

You must not have sexual intercourse ¹  with the wife of your fellow citizen to become unclean with her.

The one who goes about slandering others ¹  reveals ²  secrets, but the one who is trustworthy ³  conceals a matter.
