Am I now trying to gain the approval of people, ¹  or of God? Or am I trying to please people? ²  If I were still trying to please ³  people, ⁴  I would not be a slave ⁵  of Christ!

The crowd ¹  answered, “You’re possessed by a demon! ²  Who is trying to kill you?” ³ 

These things I have written to you about those who are trying to deceive you. ¹ 

The ¹  whole crowd was trying to touch him, because power ²  was coming out from him and healing them all.

While they were trying ¹  to kill him, a report ²  was sent up ³  to the commanding officer ⁴  of the cohort ⁵  that all Jerusalem was in confusion. ⁶ 

trying to learn ¹  what is pleasing to the Lord.

Then some of the residents of Jerusalem ¹  began to say, “Isn’t this the man ²  they are trying ³  to kill?

He addressed ¹  both Jews and Greeks in the synagogue ²  every Sabbath, attempting to persuade ³  them.

I do not want to seem as though I am trying to terrify you with my letters,

The king replied, “I know for sure that you are attempting to gain time, because you see that my decision is firm.

But Jesus realized their evil intentions and said, “Hypocrites! Why are you testing me?

Are you so foolish? Although you began ¹  with ²  the Spirit, are you now trying to finish ³  by human effort? ⁴ 

He ¹  was trying to get a look at Jesus, ²  but being a short man he could not see over the crowd. ³ 

But now you are trying ¹  to kill me, a man who has told you ²  the truth I heard from God. Abraham did not do this! ³ 

The disciples replied, ¹  “Rabbi, the Jewish leaders ²  were just now trying ³  to stone you to death! Are ⁴  you going there again?”

Do not wear yourself out to become rich; be wise enough to restrain yourself. ¹ 

Those who linger over wine, those who go looking for mixed wine. ¹ 

Whoever hides her hides the wind ¹  or grasps ²  oil with his right hand. ³ 

He ¹  even tried to desecrate ²  the temple, so we arrested ³  him. ⁴ 

Or are we trying to provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we really stronger than he is? ¹
