They ¹  love the place of honor at banquets and the best seats in the synagogues ²

Woe to you Pharisees! You love the best seats ¹  in the synagogues ²  and elaborate greetings ³  in the marketplaces!

“Beware ¹  of the experts in the law. ²  They ³  like walking around in long robes, and they love elaborate greetings ⁴  in the marketplaces and the best seats ⁵  in the synagogues ⁶  and the places of honor at banquets.

Then ¹  they came to Jerusalem. ²  Jesus ³  entered the temple area ⁴  and began to drive out those who were selling and buying in the temple courts. ⁵  He turned over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves,

He spoke kindly to him and gave him a more prestigious position than ¹  the other kings who were with him in Babylon.

that he might seat him with princes, with the princes of his people.

Indeed, ¹  the leaders sit ²  there on thrones and make legal decisions, on the thrones of the house of David. ³ 

He has brought down the mighty ¹  from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position; ² 

He spoke kindly to him and gave him a more prestigious position than ¹  the other kings who were with him in Babylon.

In ¹  a circle around the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on those thrones were twenty-four elders. They were ²  dressed in white clothing and had golden crowns ³  on their heads.

Then ¹  the twenty-four elders who are seated on their thrones before God threw themselves down with their faces to the ground ²  and worshiped God

the young men would see me and step aside, ¹  and the old men would get up and remain standing;

They mock ¹  and say evil things; ²  they proudly threaten violence. ³ 

Then some men from Israel’s elders came to me and sat down in front of me.

Then he will show you a large furnished room upstairs. Make preparations there.”

They sat before him, arranged by order of birth, beginning with the firstborn and ending with the youngest. ¹  The men looked at each other in astonishment. ² 

Boaz chose ten of the village leaders ¹  and said, “Sit down here!” So they sat down.

So I went down to the potter’s house and found him working ¹  at his wheel. ²
