And again another scripture says, “They will look on the one whom they have pierced.” ¹ 

(For they did not yet understand ¹  the scripture that Jesus ²  must rise from the dead.) ³ 

For the scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” ¹ 

Then ¹  he began to tell them, “Today ²  this scripture has been fulfilled even as you heard it being read.” ³ 

Above all, you do well if you recognize ¹  this: ²  No prophecy of scripture ever comes about by the prophet’s own imagination, ³ 

Have you not read this scripture: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. ¹ 

If those people to whom the word of God came were called ‘gods’ (and the scripture cannot be broken), ¹ 

After this Jesus, realizing that by this time ¹  everything was completed, ²  said (in order to fulfill the scripture), ³  “I am thirsty!” ⁴ 

For these things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled, “Not a bone of his will be broken.” ¹ 

So Philip started speaking, ¹  and beginning with this scripture ²  proclaimed the good news about Jesus to him.

For what does the scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited ¹  to him as righteousness.” ² 

Until I come, give attention to the public reading of scripture, ¹  to exhortation, to teaching.

For the scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” ¹  and, “The worker deserves his pay.” ² 

Every scripture ¹  is inspired by God ²  and useful for teaching, for reproof, ³  for correction, and for training in righteousness,

let the one who believes in me drink. ¹  Just as the scripture says, ‘From within him ²  will flow rivers of living water.’” ³ 

And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Now Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness,” ¹  and he was called God’s friend. ² 

But if you fulfill the royal law as expressed in this scripture, ¹  “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” ²  you are doing well.

Or do you think the scripture means nothing when it says, ¹  “The spirit that God ²  caused ³  to live within us has an envious yearning”? ⁴ 

Don’t the scriptures say that the Christ is a descendant ¹  of David ²  and comes from Bethlehem, ³  the village where David lived?” ⁴
