These towns that you must give shall be your six towns for refuge.

He will say, “Where are their gods, the rock in whom they sought security,

The wild goats live in the high mountains; ¹  the rock badgers find safety in the cliffs.

For you have taken refuge in the Lord, my shelter, the sovereign One. ¹ 

You want to humiliate the oppressed, ¹  even though ²  the Lord is their ³  shelter.

Many are appalled when they see me, ¹  but you are my secure shelter.

But the Lord will protect me, ¹  and my God will shelter me. ² 

“Have the Israelites select ¹  the cities of refuge ²  that I told you about through Moses.

Consequently ¹  the Lord provides safety for the oppressed; ²  he provides safety in times of trouble. ³ 

I say this about the Lord, my shelter and my stronghold, my God in whom I trust –

In the fear of the Lord one has ¹  strong confidence, ²  and it will be a refuge ³  for his children.

But if the slayer at any time goes outside the boundary of the town to which he had fled,

A prayer ²  of David. Protect me, O God, for I have taken shelter in you. ³ 

Indeed, ¹  you are ²  my shelter, a strong tower that protects me from the enemy. ³ 

It is better to take shelter ¹  in the Lord than to trust in people.

It is better to take shelter in the Lord than to trust in princes.

They were allotted as cities ¹  of refuge Shechem and its pasturelands (in the hill country of Ephraim), Gezer and its pasturelands,

My God ¹  is my rocky summit where I take shelter, ²  my shield, the horn that saves me, ³  my stronghold, my refuge, my savior. You save me from violence! ⁴ 

The wicked will be thrown down in his trouble, ¹  but the righteous have refuge ²  even in the threat of death. ³ 

The Lord is good ¹  – indeed, ²  he is a fortress ³  in time of distress, ⁴  and he protects ⁵  those who seek refuge ⁶  in him.
