in order to take ¹  revenge on the nations, and punish foreigners.

I will desolate Pathros, I will ignite a fire in Zoan, and I will execute judgments on Thebes.

I will execute judgments on Egypt. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’”

then the Lord will increase your punishments and those of your descendants – great and long-lasting afflictions and severe, enduring illnesses.

Fear the sword yourselves, for wrath ¹  brings the punishment ²  by the sword, so that you may know that there is judgment.” ³

“‘If in spite of these things ¹  you do not allow yourselves to be disciplined and you walk in hostility against me, ² 

I will give you sincere thanks, ¹  when I learn your just regulations.

Then ¹  I heard the altar reply, ²  “Yes, Lord God, the All-Powerful, ³  your judgments are true and just!”

then this ¹  also would be iniquity to be judged, ²  for I would have been false ³  to God above.
