Plague goes before him; pestilence ¹  marches right behind him. ² 

he will certainly rescue you from the snare of the hunter ¹  and from the destructive plague.

the plague that comes in the darkness, or the disease that comes at noon. ¹ 

The sword is outside; pestilence and famine are inside the house. Whoever is in the open field will die by the sword, and famine and pestilence will consume everyone in the city.

I will strike them with the pestilence, ¹  and I will disinherit them; I will make you into a nation that is greater and mightier than they!”

So the Lord sent a plague through Israel, and 70,000 Israelite men died.

For by now I could have stretched out ¹  my hand and struck you and your people with plague, and you would have been destroyed ²  from the earth.

I will kill everything living in Jerusalem, ¹  people and animals alike! They will die from terrible diseases.

I will bring war, starvation, and disease ¹  on them until they are completely destroyed from the land I gave them and their ancestors.’” ² 

There is no reason why you and your people should die in war ¹  or from starvation or disease! ²  That’s what the Lord says will happen to any nation ³  that will not be subject to the king of Babylon.

From earliest times, the prophets who preceded you and me invariably ¹  prophesied war, disaster, ²  and plagues against many countries and great kingdoms.

The Lord who rules over all ¹  says, ‘I will bring war, ²  starvation, and disease on them. I will treat them like figs that are so rotten ³  they cannot be eaten.

So now be very sure of this: You will die from war, starvation, or disease in the place where you want to go and live.”

I will punish those who live in the land of Egypt with war, starvation, and disease just as I punished Jerusalem.

The Lord will plague you with deadly diseases ¹  until he has completely removed you from the land you are about to possess.

“Or suppose I were to send a plague into that land, and pour out my rage on it with bloodshed, killing both people and animals.

I will bring on you an avenging sword, a covenant vengeance. ¹  Although ²  you will gather together into your cities, I will send pestilence among you and you will be given into enemy hands. ³ 

When ¹  I close up the sky ²  so that it doesn’t rain, or command locusts to devour the land’s vegetation, ³  or send a plague among my people,

Even if they fast, I will not hear their cries for help. Even if they offer burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. ¹  Instead, I will kill them through wars, famines, and plagues.” ² 

I will chase after them with war, ¹  starvation, and disease. I will make all the kingdoms of the earth horrified at what happens to them. I will make them examples of those who are cursed, objects of horror, hissing scorn, and ridicule among all the nations where I exile them.
