But although we suffered earlier and were mistreated in Philippi, ¹  as you know, we had the courage in our God to declare to you the gospel of God ²  in spite of much opposition.

And because they saw the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say against this. ¹ 

Think of him who endured such opposition against himself by sinners, so that you may not grow weary in your souls and give up.

correcting ¹  opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance and then knowledge of the truth ² 

But in fact, if you happen to suffer ¹  for doing what is right, ²  you are blessed. But do not be terrified of them ³  or be shaken. ⁴ 

Through patience ¹  a ruler can be persuaded, ²  and a soft tongue ³  can break a bone. ⁴ 

Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, ¹  to watch out for those who create dissensions and obstacles contrary to the teaching that you learned. Avoid them!

For the flesh has desires that are opposed to the Spirit, and the Spirit has desires ¹  that are opposed to the flesh, for these are in opposition to ²  each other, so that you cannot do what you want.

because a door of great opportunity stands wide open for me, ¹  but there are many opponents.

but only a certain fearful expectation of judgment and a fury ¹  of fire that will consume God’s enemies. ² 

You hide them with you, where they are safe from the attacks ¹  of men; ²  you conceal them in a shelter, where they are safe from slanderous attacks. ³ 

He executes judgment ¹  against ²  the nations; he fills the valleys with corpses; ³  he shatters their heads over the vast battlefield. ⁴
