If a scourge brings sudden death, ¹  he mocks ²  at the despair ³  of the innocent. ⁴ 

The one who mocks the poor ¹  insults ²  his Creator; whoever rejoices over disaster will not go unpunished.

The eye ¹  that mocks at a father and despises obeying ²  a mother – the ravens of the valley will peck it out and the young vultures will eat it. ³ 

Lord, you coerced me into being a prophet, and I allowed you to do it. You overcame my resistance and prevailed over me. ¹  Now I have become a constant laughingstock. Everyone ridicules me.

A crooked witness ¹  scorns justice, and the mouth of the wicked devours ²  iniquity.

It laughs at fear and is not dismayed; it does not shy away from the sword.

Although ¹  he is scornful to arrogant scoffers, ²  yet ³  he shows favor to the humble. ⁴ 

Fools mock ¹  at reparation, ²  but among the upright there is favor. ³ 

Would it turn out well if he would examine ¹  you? Or as one deceives ²  a man would you deceive him?

The righteous see their destruction ¹  and rejoice; the innocent mock them scornfully, ²  saying,

It claps ¹  its hands at him in derision and hisses him away from his place. ² 

The one enthroned ¹  in heaven laughs in disgust; ²  the Lord taunts ³  them.

All who see me taunt ¹  me; they mock me ²  and shake their heads. ³ 

The one who oppresses ¹  the poor insults ²  his Creator, but whoever shows favor ³  to the needy honors him.

This is what the Lord says about him: ¹  “The virgin daughter Zion ²  despises you, she makes fun of you; Daughter Jerusalem shakes her head after you. ³
