When your children ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’ ¹  –

When your people ¹  say to you, ‘Will you not tell us what these things mean?’

All were astounded and greatly confused, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”

For you are bringing some surprising things ¹  to our ears, so we want to know what they ²  mean.”

The stones ¹  will be a reminder to you. ²  When your children ask someday, ‘Why are these stones important to you?’

Why do you crush my people and grind the faces of the poor?” ¹  The sovereign Lord who commands armies ²  has spoken.

Then the people said to me, “Will you not tell us what these things you are doing mean for us?”

So they kept on repeating, ¹  “What is the meaning of what he says, ²  ‘In a little while’? ³  We do not understand ⁴  what he is talking about.” ⁵ 

“What do you mean by quoting this proverb concerning the land of Israel, “‘The fathers eat sour grapes And the children’s teeth become numb?’ ¹ 

He told the Israelites, “When your children someday ask their fathers, ‘What do these stones represent?’ ¹ 

What did he mean by saying, ¹  ‘You will look for me ²  but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come’?”

Now I mean this, that ¹  each of you is saying, “I am with Paul,” or “I am with Apollos,” or “I am with Cephas,” or “I am with Christ.”

I do not mean yours but the other person’s. For why is my freedom being judged by another’s conscience?

For I do not say this so there would be relief for others and suffering for you, but as a matter of equality.

Now what is the meaning of “he ascended,” except that he also descended ¹  to the lower regions, ²  namely, the earth? ³ 

Abimelech asked Abraham, “What is the meaning of these ¹  seven ewe lambs that you have set apart?”

Esau ¹  then asked, “What did you intend ²  by sending all these herds to meet me?” ³  Jacob ⁴  replied, “To find favor in your sight, my lord.”

¹ In the future, ²  when your son asks you ³  ‘What is this?’ ⁴  you are to tell him, ‘With a mighty hand ⁵  the Lord brought us out from Egypt, from the land of slavery. ⁶ 

Here is a message about the Valley of Vision: ¹  What is the reason ²  that all of you go up to the rooftops?
