You must not charge interest on a loan to your fellow Israelite, ¹  whether on money, food, or anything else that has been loaned with interest.

You must not lend him your money at interest and you must not sell him food for profit. ¹ 

You may lend with interest to a foreigner, but not to your fellow Israelite; if you keep this command the Lord your God will bless you in all you undertake in the land you are about to enter to possess.

“If you lend money to any of ¹  my people who are needy among you, do not be like a moneylender ²  to him; do not charge ³  him interest. ⁴ 

Do not take interest or profit from him, ¹  but you must fear your God and your brother must live ²  with you.

Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, ¹  and on my return I would have received my money back with interest! ² 

Why then didn’t you put ¹  my money in the bank, ²  so that when I returned I could have collected it with interest?’

The one who increases his wealth by increasing interest ¹  gathers it for someone who is gracious ²  to the needy.

He does not charge interest when he lends his money. ¹  He does not take bribes to testify against the innocent. ²  The one who lives like this ³  will never be upended.

does not engage in usury or charge interest, ¹  but refrains ²  from wrongdoing, promotes true justice ³  between men,

engages in usury and charges interest. Will he live? He will not! Because he has done all these abominable deeds he will certainly die. ¹  He will bear the responsibility for his own death. ² 

refrains from wrongdoing, ¹  does not engage in usury or charge interest, carries out my regulations and follows my statutes. He will not die for his father’s iniquity; ²  he will surely live.

They take bribes within you to shed blood. You engage in usury and charge interest; ¹  you extort money from your neighbors. You have forgotten me, ²  declares the sovereign Lord. ³ 

Even I and my relatives ¹  and my associates ²  are lending them money and grain. But let us abandon this practice of seizing collateral! ³ 

For what is his interest ¹  in his home after his death, ²  when the number of his months has been broken off? ³ 

I considered these things carefully ¹  and then registered a complaint with the wealthy ²  and the officials. I said to them, “Each one of you is seizing the collateral ³  from your own countrymen!” ⁴  Because of them I called for ⁵  a great public assembly.

What then? Israel failed to obtain what it was diligently seeking, but the elect obtained it. The ¹  rest were hardened,

he is conceited and understands nothing, but has an unhealthy interest in controversies and verbal disputes. This gives rise to envy, dissension, slanders, evil suspicions,

This very day return to them their fields, their vineyards, their olive trees, and their houses, along with the interest ¹  that you are exacting from them on the money, the grain, the new wine, and the olive oil.”

Let him not trust in what is worthless, ¹  deceiving himself; for worthlessness will be his reward. ²
