But these men do not understand the things they slander, and they are being destroyed by the very things that, like irrational animals, they instinctively comprehend. ¹ 

But ¹  these men, ²  like irrational animals – creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed ³  – do not understand whom ⁴  they are insulting, and consequently ⁵  in their destruction they will be destroyed, ⁶ 

Who has put wisdom in the heart, ¹  or has imparted understanding to the mind?

These people are divisive, ¹  worldly, ²  devoid of the Spirit. ³ 

For whenever the Gentiles, ¹  who do not have the law, do by nature ²  the things required by the law, ³  these who do not have the law are a law to themselves.

For I don’t understand what I am doing. For I do not do what I want – instead, I do what I hate. ¹
