(All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there used to spend their time ¹  in nothing else than telling ²  or listening to something new.) ³ 

I will have nothing to do with a perverse person; ¹  I will not permit ²  evil.

The discerning person ¹  acquires knowledge, and the wise person ²  seeks ³  knowledge.

For from within, out of the human heart, come evil ideas, sexual immorality, theft, murder,

Then the Pharisees answered, ¹  “You haven’t been deceived too, have you? ² 

There was ¹  a lot of grumbling ²  about him among the crowds. ³  Some were saying, “He is a good man,” but others, “He deceives the common people.” ⁴ 

Be careful not to allow anyone to captivate you ¹  through an empty, deceitful philosophy ²  that is according to human traditions and the elemental spirits ³  of the world, and not according to Christ.

For calamity, ¹  there is derision (according to the ideas of the fortunate ² ) – a fate ³  for those whose feet slip!

For out of the heart come evil ideas, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

So Jesus replied, ¹  “My teaching is not from me, but from the one who sent me. ² 

For you are bringing some surprising things ¹  to our ears, so we want to know what they ²  mean.”

But reject those myths ¹  fit only for the godless and gullible, ²  and train yourself for godliness.

But be sure you live out the message and do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourselves.

So I decided ¹  to discern the benefit of ²  wisdom and knowledge over ³  foolish behavior and ideas; ⁴  however, I concluded ⁵  that even ⁶  this endeavor ⁷  is like ⁸  trying to chase the wind! ⁹ 

so it would be a lowly kingdom which could not rise on its own but must keep its treaty with him in order to stand.

For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will thwart the cleverness of the intelligent.” ¹ 

When I came ¹  to you, brothers and sisters, ²  I did not come with superior eloquence or wisdom as I proclaimed the testimony ³  of God.

and every arrogant obstacle ¹  that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obey ²  Christ.

O Timothy, protect what has been entrusted to you. Avoid ¹  the profane chatter and absurdities ²  of so-called “knowledge.” ³ 

They have strayed from the truth ¹  by saying that the resurrection has already occurred, and they are undermining some people’s faith.
