After an interval of about three hours, ¹  his wife came in, but she did not know ²  what had happened.

But when they recognized ¹  that he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison, ²  “Great is Artemis ³  of the Ephesians!” for about two hours. ⁴ 

Jesus replied, ¹  “Are there not twelve hours in a day? If anyone walks around in the daytime, he does not stumble, ²  because he sees the light of this world. ³ 

whenever ¹  I remember you on my bed, and think about you during the nighttime hours.

My eyes anticipate the nighttime hours, so that I can meditate on your word.

Those who linger over wine, those who go looking for mixed wine. ¹ 

for the fruit of the light ¹  consists in ²  all goodness, righteousness, and truth –

For one-fourth of the day they stood in their place and read from the book of the law of the LORD their God, and for another fourth they were confessing their sins ¹  and worshiping the LORD their God.

We would share personal thoughts with each other; ¹  in God’s temple we would walk together among the crowd.

Don’t set foot too frequently ¹  in your neighbor’s house, lest he become weary ²  of you and hate you.

It was now ¹  about noon, ²  and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, ³ 

Yes, ¹  in your eyes a thousand years are like yesterday that quickly passes, or like one of the divisions of the nighttime. ² 

Those who get up early to drink beer are as good as dead, ¹  those who keep drinking long after dark until they are intoxicated with wine. ² 

At that very time ¹  Jesus ²  cured many people of diseases, sicknesses, ³  and evil spirits, and granted ⁴  sight to many who were blind.

Let us live decently as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in discord and jealousy.

They made their lives bitter ¹  by ²  hard service with mortar and bricks and by all kinds of service ³  in the fields. Every kind of service the Israelites were required to give was rigorous. ⁴ 

The musicians and Levite family leaders stayed in rooms at the sanctuary ¹  and were exempt from other duties, for day and night they had to carry out their assigned tasks.

Pay them back for their evil deeds! Pay them back for what they do! Punish them! ¹ 

saying, ‘These last fellows worked one hour, and you have made them equal to us who bore the hardship and burning heat of the day.’

Around three o’clock ¹  Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” ²
