A fool lets fly with all his temper, ¹  but a wise person keeps it back. ² 

but he holds his priesthood permanently since he lives forever.

If he holds back the waters, then they dry up; ¹  if he releases them, ²  they destroy ³  the land.

Even if ¹  he trips, he will not fall headlong, ²  for the Lord holds ³  his hand.

Even a fool who remains silent is considered ¹  wise, and the one who holds his tongue is deemed discerning. ² 

For in this instance the saying is true, ¹  ‘One sows and another reaps.’

I will remove ¹  the ruler ²  from Ashdod, ³  the one who holds the royal scepter from Ashkelon. ⁴  I will strike Ekron ⁵  with my hand; ⁶  the rest of the Philistines will also die.” ⁷  The sovereign Lord has spoken!

“To the angel of the church in Ephesus, ¹  write the following: ²  “This is the solemn pronouncement of ³  the one who has a firm grasp on ⁴  the seven stars in his right hand ⁵  – the one who walks among the seven golden ⁶  lampstands:

if he retains it for himself and does not let it go, and holds it fast in his mouth, ¹ 

The wise inherit honor, but he holds fools up ¹  to public contempt. ² 

The one who denounces ¹  his neighbor lacks wisdom, ²  but the one who has discernment ³  keeps silent. ⁴ 

Her hands ¹  take hold ²  of the distaff, and her hands grasp the spindle.

He himself is before all things and all things are held together ¹  in him.

I will break the bar ¹  on the gate of Damascus. I will remove ²  the ruler ³  from Wicked Valley, ⁴  the one who holds the royal scepter from Beth Eden. ⁵  The people of Aram will be deported to Kir.” ⁶  The Lord has spoken!

As for foreigners who become followers of ¹  the Lord and serve him, who love the name of the Lord and want to be his servants – all who observe the Sabbath and do not defile it, and who are faithful to ²  my covenant –

For “physical exercise ¹  has some value, but godliness is valuable in every way. It holds promise for the present life and for the life to come.”

He leans against his house but it does not hold up, ¹  he takes hold ²  of it but it does not stand.

But the righteous man holds to his way, and the one with clean hands grows stronger. ¹ 

A psalm of Asaph. God stands in ²  the assembly of El; ³  in the midst of the gods ⁴  he renders judgment. ⁵ 

Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a pure and upright man, one who fears God and turns away from evil. And he still holds firmly ¹  to his integrity, ²  so that ³  you stirred me up to destroy him ⁴  without reason.” ⁵
