That is why to this day ¹  the Israelites do not eat the sinew which is attached to the socket of the hip, because he struck ²  the socket of Jacob’s hip near the attached sinew.

The sun rose ¹  over him as he crossed over Penuel, ²  but ³  he was limping because of his hip.

When the man ¹  saw that he could not defeat Jacob, ²  he struck ³  the socket of his hip so the socket of Jacob’s hip was dislocated while he wrestled with him.

He struck them down and defeated them. ¹  Then he went down and lived for a time in the cave in the cliff of Etam.

For this is what the Lord says: “Look, I am ready to extend to her prosperity that will flow like a river, the riches of nations will flow into her like a stream that floods its banks. ¹  You will nurse from her breast ²  and be carried at her side; you will play on her knees.

And their meat will be yours, just as the breast and the right hip of the raised offering is yours.

Then all the color drained from the king’s face ¹  and he became alarmed. ²  The joints of his hips gave way, ³  and his knees began knocking together.

Look all around you! ¹  They all gather and come to you – your sons come from far away and your daughters are escorted by guardians.
