Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is a great help ¹  to me in ministry. ² 

You know that I did not hold back from proclaiming ¹  to you anything that would be helpful, ²  and from teaching you publicly ³  and from house to house,

“Everything is lawful,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is lawful,” ¹  but not everything builds others up. ² 

“All things are lawful for me” ¹  – but not everything is beneficial. “All things are lawful for me” – but I will not be controlled by anything.

So the churches were being strengthened in the faith and were increasing in number every day. ¹ 

And let us take thought of how to spur one another on to love and good works, ¹ 

You must let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but only what is beneficial for the building up of the one in need, ¹  that it may give grace to those who hear.

Samuel continued to grow, and the Lord was with him. None of his prophecies fell to the ground unfulfilled. ¹ 

“Is it to God that a strong man is of benefit? Is it to him that even a wise man is profitable? ¹ 

How you have advised the one without wisdom, and abundantly ¹  revealed your insight!

The lips of the righteous know ¹  what is pleasing, ²  but the speech ³  of the wicked is perverse.

From the fruit of his speech ¹  a person eats good things, ²  but the faithless ³  desire ⁴  the fruit of violence. ⁵ 

But you should be eager for the greater gifts. And now I will show you a way that is beyond comparison. ¹ 

Instead, ¹  be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you. ² 

Instead he must be hospitable, devoted to what is good, sensible, upright, devout, and self-controlled.

I am saying this for your benefit, not to place a limitation on you, but so that without distraction you may give notable and constant service to the Lord.
