So the lame man ¹  paid attention to them, expecting to receive something from them.

He went ¹  to be registered with Mary, who was promised in marriage to him, ²  and who was expecting a child.

The following day ¹  he entered Caesarea. ²  Now Cornelius was waiting anxiously ³  for them and had called together his relatives and close friends.

But they were expecting that he was going to swell up ¹  or suddenly drop dead. So after they had waited ²  a long time and had seen ³  nothing unusual happen ⁴  to him, they changed their minds ⁵  and said he was a god. ⁶ 

So then, let no one treat him with contempt. But send him on his way in peace so that he may come to me. For I am expecting him with the brothers. ¹ 

When his accusers stood up, they did not charge ¹  him with any of the evil deeds I had suspected. ² 

“Are you the one who is to come, ¹  or should we look for another?”

When ¹  Peter came to himself, he said, “Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued ²  me from the hand ³  of Herod ⁴  and from everything the Jewish people ⁵  were expecting to happen.”

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back. ¹  Then ²  your reward will be great, and you will be sons ³  of the Most High, ⁴  because he is kind to ungrateful and evil people. ⁵ 

Now when Jesus returned, ¹  the crowd welcomed him, because they were all waiting for him.

and sent them to Jesus ¹  to ask, ²  “Are you the one who is to come, ³  or should we look for another?”

If ¹  someone pampers his servant from youth, he will be a weakling ²  in the end.

Blessed is anyone ¹  who takes no offense at me.”

where he is now waiting ¹  until his enemies are made a footstool for his feet. ² 

From that time ¹  when one came expecting a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten; when one came to the wine vat to draw out fifty measures from it, there were only twenty.

When ¹  the men came to Jesus, ²  they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask, ³  ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?’” ⁴ 

Your loyal followers will be glad when they see me, ¹  for I find hope in your word.

Everything looks to you in anticipation, ¹  and you provide them with food on a regular basis. ² 

And if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah, who is to come.
