The evil person is ensnared ¹  by the transgression of his speech, ²  but the righteous person escapes out of trouble. ³ 

After they have been destroyed from your presence, be careful not to be ensnared like they are; do not pursue their gods and say, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do the same.”

so that the godless man should not rule, and not lay snares for the people. ¹ 

if ¹  you have been ensnared ²  by the words you have uttered, ³  and have been caught by the words you have spoken,

In the transgression of an evil person there is a snare, ¹  but a righteous person can sing ²  and rejoice. ³ 

You must burn the images of their gods, but do not covet the silver and gold that covers them so much that you take it for yourself and thus become ensnared by it; for it is abhorrent ¹  to the Lord your God.

The Lord revealed himself; he accomplished justice; the wicked were ensnared by their own actions. ¹  (Higgaion. ²  Selah)

lest you learn ¹  his ways and entangle yourself in a snare. ² 

The ropes of the wicked tighten around ¹  me, but I do not forget your law.

Many will stumble over the stone and the rock, ¹  and will fall and be seriously injured, and will be ensnared and captured.”

For freedom ¹  Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be subject again to the yoke ²  of slavery.

Surely, no one ¹  knows his appointed time! ²  Like fish that are caught in a deadly ³  net, and like birds that are caught in a snare – just like them, all people ⁴  are ensnared ⁵  at an unfortunate ⁶  time that falls upon them suddenly.

So the Lord’s word to them will sound like meaningless gibberish, senseless babbling, a syllable here, a syllable there. ¹  As a result, they will fall on their backsides when they try to walk, ²  and be injured, ensnared, and captured. ³
