you must drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you. Destroy all their carved images, all their molten images, ¹  and demolish their high places.

He will direct the blows of his battering rams against your walls and tear down your towers with his weapons. ¹ 

“In that day,” says the Lord, “I will destroy ¹  your horses from your midst, and smash your chariots.

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have not come to abolish these things but to fulfill them. ¹ 

“You must not bow down to their gods; you must not serve them or do according to their practices. Instead you must completely overthrow them and smash their standing stones ¹  to pieces. ² 

You must by all means destroy ¹  all the places where the nations you are about to dispossess worship their gods – on the high mountains and hills and under every leafy tree. ² 

He will demolish the sacred pillars in the temple of the sun ¹  in Egypt and will burn down the temples of the gods of Egypt.”’”

He also threatened ¹  the men of Penuel, warning, ²  “When I return victoriously, ³  I will tear down this tower.”

One who digs a pit may ¹  fall into it, and one who breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake. ² 

I will desolate Pathros, I will ignite a fire in Zoan, and I will execute judgments on Thebes.

This is what the sovereign Lord says: While the whole earth rejoices, I will turn you into a desolation.

I will destroy the cities of your land, and tear down all your fortresses.

I will uproot your images of Asherah ¹  from your midst, and destroy your idols. ² 

for the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons, ¹  but are made powerful by God ²  for tearing down strongholds. ³  We tear down arguments ⁴ 

For they do not understand the Lord’s actions, or the way he carries out justice. ¹  The Lord ²  will permanently demolish them. ³ 

The Lord stretched out his hand over the sea, ¹  he shook kingdoms; he ²  gave the order to destroy Canaan’s fortresses. ³ 

I will lay waste your cities; and you will become desolate. Then you will know that I am the Lord!

Their heart is slipping; soon they will be punished for their guilt. The Lord ¹  will break their altars; he will completely destroy their fertility pillars.

A sword will flash in their cities, it will destroy the bars of their city gates, and will devour them in their fortresses.

and every arrogant obstacle ¹  that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obey ²  Christ.
