He catches ¹  the wise in their own craftiness, ²  and the counsel of the cunning ³  is brought to a quick end. ⁴ 

that does not respond to ¹  the magicians, or to a skilled snake-charmer.

So ¹  we are no longer to be children, tossed back and forth by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching by the trickery of people who craftily carry out their deceitful schemes. ² 

Go and make further arrangements. Determine precisely ¹  where he is ²  and who has seen him there, for I am told that he is extremely cunning.

But I am afraid that ¹  just as the serpent ²  deceived Eve by his treachery, ³  your minds may be led astray ⁴  from a sincere and pure ⁵  devotion to Christ.

You despise ¹  all who stray from your statutes, for they are deceptive and unreliable. ² 

Suddenly ¹  a woman came out to meet him! She was dressed like a prostitute ²  and with secret intent. ³ 

¹ “The tabernacle itself ²  you are to make with ³  ten curtains of fine twisted linen and blue and purple and scarlet; ⁴  you are to make them with ⁵  cherubim that are the work of an artistic designer.

When the boys grew up, Esau became a skilled ¹  hunter, a man of the open fields, but Jacob was an even-tempered man, living in tents. ² 

They devise ¹  unjust schemes; they disguise ²  a well-conceived plot. ³  Man’s inner thoughts cannot be discovered. ⁴ 

But Isaac ¹  replied, “Your brother came in here deceitfully and took away ²  your blessing.”

They carefully plot ¹  against your people, and make plans to harm ²  the ones you cherish. ³ 

If I forget you, O Jerusalem, may my right hand be crippled! ¹ 

Gilead is a city full of evildoers; ¹  its streets are stained with bloody footprints! ² 

The businessmen love to cheat; ¹  they use dishonest scales. ² 

But Jesus ¹  perceived their deceit ²  and said to them,

Such ¹  wisdom does not come ²  from above but is earthly, natural, ³  demonic.

they did something clever. They collected some provisions ¹  and put worn-out sacks on their donkeys, along with worn-out wineskins that were ripped and patched.

to make artistic designs ¹  for work with gold, with silver, and with bronze,

and in cutting stones for their setting, ¹  and in cutting wood, to do work in every artistic craft. ²
