The Lord lift up his countenance upon you ¹  and give you peace.”’

The north wind ¹  brings forth rain, and a gossiping tongue ²  brings forth ³  an angry look. ⁴ 

A joyful heart ¹  makes the face cheerful, ²  but by a painful heart the spirit is broken.

Sorrow ¹  is better than laughter, because sober reflection ²  is good for the heart. ³ 

You overpower him once for all, ¹  and he departs; you change ²  his appearance and send him away.

It is burned ¹  and cut down. They die because you are displeased with them. ² 

Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why is your expression downcast?

a nation of stern appearance that will have no regard for the elderly or pity for the young.

If I smiled at them, they hardly believed it; ¹  and they did not cause the light of my face to darken. ² 

You are aware of our sins; ¹  you even know about our hidden sins. ² 

As ¹  iron sharpens ²  iron, so a person ³  sharpens his friend. ⁴ 

The wicked man is so arrogant he always thinks, “God won’t hold me accountable; he doesn’t care.” ¹ 

How blessed are the people who worship you! ¹  O Lord, they experience your favor. ² 

If I say, ¹  ‘I will ²  forget my complaint, I will change my expression ³  and be cheerful,’ ⁴ 

Then King Belshazzar was very terrified, and he was visibly shaken. ¹  His nobles were completely dumbfounded.

but with Cain and his offering he was not pleased. ¹  So Cain became very angry, ²  and his expression was downcast. ³ 

Many say, “Who can show us anything good?” Smile upon us, Lord! ¹ 

His ¹  appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.

All the inhabitants of the coastlands are shocked at you, and their kings are horribly afraid – their faces are troubled.

Then all the color drained from the king’s face ¹  and he became alarmed. ²  The joints of his hips gave way, ³  and his knees began knocking together.
